A Fall From

Looking back through the archives, I’ve noticed the progressiveness from the start of things here. At first it wasn’t much, but it slowly transformed into a platform where I could express my writing on various subjects. I’ve written about war, culture, friends, music, clothing, and more recently, sports. The sentence I should say is: “What I haven’t written about is the pictures I used to post on a consistent basis,” but that makes me feel foolish. For the longtime readers out there you might remember the days of day to day visual updates, but those days are long past. Fortunately, I miss exhibiting interesting photographs from around the world/net/friends. So I’ll try to climb back up there so I can eventually fall back down.

The Roots

A couple of weeks ago, during the local Jazz Festival, I was fortunate enough to attend The Roots’ concert. I say fortunate because, at first, I wasn’t planning on attending and I waited until the day of to grab a sold out ticket (somehow my friend had an extra). Between arriving 5 hours early by accident, watching Questlove walk past me into his hotel, seeing Tuba Gooding Jr. jaywalk as he returned from the mall, and being hugged (several times..) by a drunk 40+ year old woman in the crowd, I’d say it was a good night. Apparently, The Roots are 1 of the 25 best live shows to see according to Rolling Stone, and this show wasn’t an exception. I’d say I am an average Roots fan, Game Theory was my shit back when it was released in ‘06 and You Got Me was the first song of theirs I had ever heard. Didn’t really dig Rising Down, but their newest album is a great listen especially with the Blu features.

I took some pictures and grabbed a few videos of the show with my camera: You Got Me, Get Busy, and some random stuff. Oh one more thing, I just have to say that Tuba Gooding Jr. exudes swag(ger) while playing.

More videos after the jump…

Ought To Know

Soccer is my biggest passion. I think it’s funny hearing that from a Canadian, especially a Canadian from one of the prairie provinces. I don’t mention it a lot, but I do live in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan . For those of you who know nothing about soccer in Canada, Saskatchewan is traditionally as weak, collectively, at soccer as the Maritime Provinces (The oceanlands: Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia). The system of soccer is flawed here, children are not properly trained at a young age and the better coaches don’t waste their time training inexperienced players. Those who wish to play at a higher level are either born talented enough or work extremely hard to push past their expectations and create their own potential.

Re-Launch: Free/Man

Men’s style blogs are a dime a dozen — a phrase which as true as it is cliche. The biggest factors in discovering which ones to read reside in the content; writing style; and intrigue. Free/Man has that collective idea bundled up within its domain. I like the directness of most posts, the writing isn’t long and dragged out, they’re short and straight to the point so boredom doesn’t set in. Photography is on point, and now with the new addition of my homie Luis Valdizon as Art Director, video, the new site design, and I’m sure a whole lot more we don’t know about (at least yet), exceeds expectations. The post selections are useful, and informative which range from interviews, product insight, fashion, personal, and shops

With Luis’ inception, Free/Man has implemented a new layout, a re-launch of sorts

Presenting an objectified opinion in regards to Free/Man is quite easy despite Luis’ association. We haven’t met in person, but we’ve talked enough for me to consider him a friend. Worthwhile discussions covering important topics/issues pertaining to ourselves have formed a type of camaraderie, a great respectability. I owe him an objectified opinion — as a friend — more so than I owe you.

That said, I sincerely recommend you take a few minutes to absorb what Free/Man has to say.
